Trump and the idealism of Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party are bringing the CCP closer than ever to taking the island.
In his post-Beijing trip interview with Fox News' Bret Baier, Trump laid the foundation to sell out Taiwan:
- He does like the pro-independence person in TW.
- Taiwan stole American chip technologies.
- He does not want to see Americans traveling 9500 miles to fight a war.
- China is VERY VERY powerful, only 59 miles away from Taiwan, a small island.
Taiwan is a de facto independent country. It has its own democratically elected government and its military. A Taiwan passport is much more powerful than a PRC passport. It has de facto embassies in many countries. However, the Democratic Progressive Party has wanted to declare some sort of official independence, which the PRC loathes.
The status quo has been one-China as follows:
- The PRC believes the CCP's government is the only legitimate government of China that includes both mainland China and Taiwan.
- The Republic of China (i.e., Taiwan) assumes it is the only legitimate government of China that includes both mainland China and Taiwan. The ROC lost mainland China to the CCP in 1949.
Retaking mainland China was the goal of the Kuomintang, the opposition party in Taiwan, until recent years. 光复大陆(Recover the Mainland) was the most important motto until the 1980s.
The US supports this status quo. Maintaining the status quo (i.e., without seeking symbolic independence declarations) deprives the CCP of a major reason to take Taiwan. By no means does the status quo guarantee peace in the Taiwan Strait, but it makes it easier for the US and the free world to support Taiwan, hence deter the PRC's invasion of Taiwan.
Trump's delegation with major cabinet members and 30 top American CEOs, in addition to his lavish praise of the Chinese middle school dropout, resembles the kings and ministers of China's vassal states going to the royal court to pay tribute to the emperor centuries ago. That is exactly the image the CCP wants. With the CCP's Moscow lapdogs fighting the Ukraine war and fracturing the Western alliance, and its Iranian pawn dragging the US into a prolonged war, depleting its munitions, the CCP gets another confidence boost, making taking Taiwan more likely.
Taking Taiwan does not mean invading Taiwan with a ground force to be slaughtered by a well-prepared defense. The Ukraine war has taught the CCP that it can subdue Taiwan without landing a single troop. If their Moscow lapdogs take out the power of a Ukrainian city for a few days, the CCP can take out the power of Taiwan's capital indefinitely with cheap drones and missiles. With Trump signaling that he will not send troops to fight for Taiwan, the PRC, with the most naval vessels in the world, can easily blockade Taiwan until its surrender. Please note that the CCP still sends critical materials to Iran via land transportation while the US blockades Iran. If the PRC blockades Taiwan, there will be no transportation that can offer a lifeline to Taiwan.
The CCP prefers the Kuomingtang, which has degraded to a Beijing's lapdog, retaking the Taiwan's government and ceding Taiwan to the PRC gradually and peacefully. The Kuomintang has written off the US as a reliable defender of Taiwan and viewed the PRC as the leading superpower, overtaking the US. Trump's visit to Beijing makes more Taiwanese accept the Kuomintang's view. Trump's frequent verbal attacks on European allies and its intention to take Greenland by force from one of America's most loyal allies only make America's Asian allies more skeptical of US support and the PRC more confident in their bellicosity.
