mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines

 As of today(2021-10-30), more than 3 billion worldwide have been fully vaccinated.  I suspect about 1 billion have taken the most scrutinized vaccines in history - mRNA vaccines.  


Here is my basic understanding of vaccines (exclusive of Chinese and Russian vaccines):

  1. They have little protection against infection for the delta (▲) variant. In terms of ▲infection, their efficacy is close to zero.
  2. They are highly effective against severe outcomes (e.g., deaths). 
  3. They are safe with minor side effects for most, rare severe side effects.
We have not heard from a single country that it has experienced massive deaths and injuries caused by COVID-19 vaccines as claimed by some anti-vaxxers all along. Only a higher power can create such an unimaginable conspiracy involving 200 or so countries governed by all kinds of ideologies in hiding massive deaths and injuries.  I do not believe a higher power creates a conspiracy to kill millions of human beings.

The idea of Ukraine sharing its natural resources with the US, originated by Senator Graham, is genius. It removes many frictions for supporting Ukraine. Xiamen-Kinmen Bridge, prelude to capturing Kinmen?

 Despite Taiwan's zero interest in the Xiamen-Kinmen Bridge linking the Mainland's Xiamen with Taiwan's Kinmen, the PRC went ahead to build it. The construction of the Xiamen section is in full swing . This bridge can be one of many potential triggers for the PRC to take Kinmen, which TW has no real interest in defending. Trump's way of dealing with Moscow thugs may greatly encourage the PRC to take the Kinmen and Matsu Islands, both of which are within the range of the PRC's conventional artillery. If Witkoff thinks it is understandable for Moscow to send troops to Ukraine to "protect Russian-speaking people" (BTW, most older Ukrainians speak Russian), it will be even more understandable to him for the PRC to send troops to defend Hokkien-speaking people. Unpreventable debit card fraud

A fraudster withdrew cash from my Discover debit card account 11 times (7 in NH and 4 in RI, all at Shaws stores) within an hour or so until the account was largely depleted. I have never lost the debit card or left it unattended outside my home. The following is one of the eleven transactions: I use the card only twice or thrice a year for the only purpose of cash withdrawal. I rarely touch cash nowadays. I never enter the card number online. The card number does not exist online anywhere. My two frequently used credit cards have no issues, so I do not see the possibility of identity theft.  I strongly suspect the fraud was done either by a Shaws employee or with the assistance of a Shaws employee so he could bypass as many checks as possible.  Discover's customer service is superb.
